Spring 2024 LaunchWe are thrilled to announce that this spring, we are welcoming 17 new high schools from locations across the country, including Rockville, Maryland; New York City, New York; San Antonio, Texas; Tallahassee, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Boston, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C. and New Haven, Connecticut. We are making significant progress on our mission and are excited to enroll more than 800 students in our program this spring - the highest number we have ever had in a single semester. As you may already know, for every student who completes our program, we will provide a $100 portfolio. We believe that by investing in our youth today, we are creating a brighter and more prosperous future for all of us. Your contributions to our work are crucial to our success and we invite you to join us in supporting their accounts. Stories From Our Chapters: Howard University Students team up with Rockville High School to bring FGI to MarylandWhen FGI tutor, Vinnae Collins, introduced Andrew Coulibaly to the organization, he was anxious to get involved, but was interested in reaching students in the DMV area. Andrew, who is a senior at Howard University, wanted to build a partnership with his alma mater. Mr. Joharrii Harris, who runs the Black Student Union at Rockville High School, welcomed the program. "We are thrilled to have our students take part in the First Generation Investor's program, and we are excited to learn from this dynamic group of young adults," said Harris. "These are important lessons that all young people should learn, and we are looking forward to a fantastic semester." This spring, Andrew and a team of knowledgeable and passionate tutors from Howard University, have taken on the task of bring FGI’s program to more than 20 high school students. The Howard University team looks forward to growing the chapter and teaching more students in the future. More than $100,000 raised through collaboration with TIAA, Wyclef Jean, and Amazon Music’s Stream it Forward InitiativeTIAA partnered with Hip Hop legend and founding member of the Fugees, Wyclef Jean, and Amazon Music’s Stream it Forward initiative, on a new track titled “Paper Right". The goal of the collaboration was to inspire multiple generations to consider their financial future and ability to retire by donating the streaming proceeds to First Generation Investors. Amazon Music donated $1.00 per stream for the first 100,000 streams, which were reached in 6 days! To date, the song has more than 600,000 streams. TIAA’s #RetireInequity campaign is focused on bringing attention to the retirement gap faced by 54% of Black Americans.
